I have placed the two search results lists, for "Native Americans" and "Indian", side by side instead of one below the other - so that they can be compared more easily.
On the left, the only Bills that contain the phrase "Native Americans" are 1, 3, 6, 22, 31, 47.
Number 26 is a Tribal Sovereignty Protection Act.
Numbers 42 & 43 are the Indian Tribal ... Business ... Act.
The rest do not seem to be about Native Americans but the phrase may be contained somewhere in the whole text of the bills, which I have not read.
Number 4 might be unpopular with Native Americans!
Bills number 11-14, 17, & 21, are all about honoring Morris King Udall, former United States Representative from Arizona (deceased).
Number 18 is to make the Columbia River, now protected by Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, "a recreational river, and for other purposes."
Numbers 10, 20, 37, 41, & 50 appear to be totally irrelevant to Native Americans - but have not read full text of Bill.
On the right, almost all the Bills contain the word "Indian".
Those that do not are: 8. Intergovernmental Tax Agreement ... 9, 10, 14-17, 19. Tribal Self-Governance Amendments ... 12, 13. Native American Business Development ... 18. Native American Agricultural Research, Development and Export Enhancement Act ... Navajo - 33 & 38. "To permit the leasing of oil and gas rights on certain lands held in trust for the Navajo Nation or allotted to a member of the Navajo Nation ..." 37. Intergovernmental Gaming Agreement ... 49. Tribal Government Tax-Exempt Bond Authority Amendments ...
And take a look at 6. "To provide incentives for Indian tribes to collect and pay lawfully imposed State sales taxes on goods sold on tribal lands and to provide for penalties against Indian tribes that do..." !!!!
These searches always seem to return 50 Bills. Perhaps the search results are limited to 50? Maybe someone can take the time to see how many there really are?
If you redo the above searches, you cannot save the URLs to the individual bills. If you try, you will receive the following message when you click on the link:
"Please resubmit your search
Search results are only retained for a limited amount of time.Your search results have either been deleted, or the file has been updated with new information."
You can, however, search for any of the Bills listed above by the bill number included. For example, to read the Bill listed as 1. under the "Indians" search (above right) put S.1213.IS in the number "2. Bill Number:" search box at THOMAS - http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c106query.html
