Illumination is the gift from the Spirit Keeper of the East that is represented and honored by the third, or inner Stone, of the "path" from the East to the center circle, the one closest to the Creator.Wild American Ginseng from 'Spirit of the Forest' used with permission
The wonderful mysterious Firefly is the animal totem for Illumination. Watching these magical creatures on a summer evening produces a feeling of awe and wonder, as well as appreciation for the many small beings. Awe and appreciation of all life are important to Illumination. Some Native peoples considered Firefly to be related to the Thunder Beings.
The plant totem for this position is Wild American Ginseng, Panax quinquefolius, another ancient assistant for Illumination. Ginseng emits a slight fluorescence at night, drawing you to it like the inner light of an illumined being. Using this herb helps promote overall good health. It is a healer, calming agent, and strengthener.
Calcite, in all its beautiful colors is the mineral totem you use to help with Illumination. Meditating with Calcite's Spirit, or carrying it in your medicine bag, or wearing as "jewelry", can help you with joy, love, communion, peace, and centering, as well as Illumination.
The color for this gift of the East is Fluorescent Blue. Whenever you are seeking more Illumination and/or Light, try to use this color. For example, you can use something of this color to focus on during meditation. The vibrations of fluorescent blue are quite strong, so use only what you need to help you with your quest. (Am not certain this blue border is "flourescent blue", am not an artist.)
NOTE: The description of the positions and totems and their meanings given on these pages is meant only as an introduction, and not a complete explanation. Meditate and study further for a more complete understanding.
